Computing Curriculum Lead
At St. Aidan’s Catholic Primary School, our vision is for all pupils to enjoy computing and become confident, responsible users of technology both in and out of school. Through engaging, relevant lessons, we aim for students to leave Year 6 with a strong understanding of how computers and the Internet work and the ability to use technology creatively and independently for a variety of purposes. The curriculum is designed to equip pupils with essential knowledge and skills to thrive in an ever-evolving technological world, preparing them for future career opportunities.
We emphasise the importance of using technology responsibly, positively, and safely. Our curriculum, which covers areas such as coding & computational thinking, information technology, computing systems & networks, and online safety, encourages students to be creators of content, not just consumers. We recognise that education plays a key role in preventing issues related to technology and social media. By teaching our pupils to make informed choices when using technology, we aim to instill a sense of responsibility.
Technology also enhances accessibility and allows pupils to share their learning creatively. Our balanced curriculum provides students with opportunities to apply their skills creatively, fostering proficiency in computer science. We aim for pupils to be fluent in using a range of digital tools to express their understanding. By Upper Key Stage 2, we hope children will have the confidence and independence to select the best tools for completing tasks set by their teachers, enabling them to become well-rounded and skilled in using technology.
